STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way… Hosts Open House
at Rubino Family Center

May 14, 2009: STAR, Inc. Lighting the Way will host an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2009 for the Rubino Family Center at 120 East Avenue in Norwalk. The center is located across the street from Norwalk City Hall. Parking and entry to the center are located in the back of the building, on the lower level.

The Rubino Family Center provides educational, therapeutic and social services for infants and toddlers with special needs. The center services families living in the towns of Norwalk, Westport, Weston, Darien, New Canaan and Wilton. However, the mission of the center is to help all families to meet the complex developmental, health-related and support needs for their infants and toddlers who have delays or disabilities.

Information about programs will be available with staff on hand to answer questions and to provide center tours of the facility. Music will be provided by members of STAR’s own Rubberband, a musical group of individuals with and without disabilities. Also, story telling will be available for the entertainment of children, and refreshments and snacks provided courtesy of Michael Joseph’s catering in Darien.

The Rubino Family Center is a regionally recognized center for infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities which also provides assistance with community providers, caregivers, preschools, daycare centers, community activities, counseling, therapies, play groups, skill development and early intervention programs. Services can be received in the family home, community daycare center, community parks or at the center itself.

STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization serving individuals of all ages with developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families. We create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. We inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals.
