STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way… relies on the generous contributions of supporters and friends to meet the costs of its services for infants, children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.
There are several ways that you can contribute to STAR:
- Annual Fund
- Membership
- Gifts in Honor or Memory
- Sponsorship
- Special Events
- Gift of Securities or Insurance
- Will or Bequest
- Corporate Matching Gift
- Donations of Time or In-Kind Services
Contributions may be made by cash, check, credit card, on online at Paypal.
We also accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.

Annual Fund
The generous annual support of these donors allows STAR the opportunity to continue its growth and service to the community.
Gifts in Honor or in Memory
Commemorate family or friends with a special gift that supports STAR. When you make a memorial or honor donation, STAR sends a card to the family or honoree acknowledging your thoughtful donation. You can add a personalized message to the card. You receive a confirmation when your donation has been received and the gift card has been sent.
Sponsorship
You earn a maximum return on your contribution by providing a sponsorship donation. When you sponsor a fundraising event for STAR, your gift is acknowledged in marketing and publicity materials for the event, and your initial gift helps ensures a proportionate return of additional donations brought in by the event. The two largest fundraisers held each year are our Galaxy of Stars Gala Dinner Dance and Auction and the STAR Walk, Roll & Stroll.

Gifts of Securities or Insurance
You can take advantage of tax benefits by giving a gift of securities to STAR. Contact Mike Petell, Director of Development at mpetell@starinconline.com for more information.
Will or Bequest
A gift to STAR via will or bequest provides several advantages:
- Tax deductible for estate tax purposes
- May place your estate in a lower tax bracket
- Allows you to specify how funds are used, whether for a specific program or general purposes
To add a bequest to your will, your lawyer would include
a statement such as the following:
“I give, devise and bequeath to STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way” for its general
purposes 25% (or whatever percentage) of the residue and remainder of
my estate, both real and practical.”
Or:
“I give, devise and bequest to STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way” the sum of $______
to be used for the general purposes of the organization.”

Corporate Matching Gift
Make the most of your donation dollars by taking advantage of your organization’s corporate matching gift, if one is available. Your donation is essentially doubled or tripled, making maximum use of your gift. |
Donations of Time and In-Kind Services
Whether you have a few hours available each week, month or year, your gift of time or in-kind services are valuable to the STAR community.
You can help out STAR:
- By volunteering to assist with mailings
- By volunteering at special events
- By helping to raise membership and visibility at summer festivals
or tables outside area businesses
- By joining a committee for one of our special events
- By joining our board and providing an in-kind donation of your professional services
- By providing an in-kind donation of trade skills such as plumbing, carpentry
- By making an in-kind donation of in-house printing services
- By making an in-kind donation of tee shirt printing for special events
- By making an in-kind donation of sign/banner printing for our special events
